Rutube Video Downloader API

Rutube publishes video as HLS only, so a plain MP4 has to be assembled before we can hand you a link. That takes a few seconds and it is done once per request, for the best quality that fits — this is the one platform where you do not get a choice of renditions, because none of them exist until they are built.

Worth knowing

Accepts limit_mb — this source offers several renditions, so you can cap the size you get back.

Questions before you build

Why is Rutube slower than the other platforms?
Rutube publishes video as HLS only, so a plain MP4 has to be assembled before we can hand you a link. That build takes a few seconds and it happens inside the same call — you still send one request and get one ready URL.
Can I choose the quality?
Not here. Every quality would need its own build, so we assemble exactly one: the highest that fits your limit_mb, capped at 720p. This is the only platform whose response carries no formats[] array.
How big will the file be?
The response reports the exact size of what it built. Rutube encodes heavily — a two and a half minute clip runs about 72 MB at 720p — so pass limit_mb if your destination has a ceiling and a smaller rendition is assembled instead.
