Do stories work, or only reels and posts?

Public stories resolve on the same endpoint, as long as the account is public. There is no separate call and no story-specific parameter — you pass the link you have.

How does a carousel come back?

As several entries in medias[], in the order they appear in the post. Mixed carousels keep their types, so a post with two photos and a video returns two image entries and one video entry.

Do I need cookies or a logged-in session?

No. There is nothing to configure and no session to keep alive on your side. Private accounts are simply not reachable and return a 403 that costs 0.1 credits.

Worth knowing

An Instagram story link — instagram.com/stories/… — costs 5 credits instead of the usual 1.5. Stories are short-lived and take a costlier path to resolve; every other Instagram link is priced normally.
